13" Maple Shou Sugi Ban Spoon

Hand-carved from New England maple and finished using shou sugi ban — an ancient Japanese technique of charring wood with open flame — this 13" cooking spoon is as striking to look at as it is to use. The controlled burn blackens the surface, hardening the wood and giving it a deep, matte finish that no stain can replicate.
The bowl is shaped for right-handed use, angled to make stirring, scraping, and folding feel natural and efficient. The handle features hand-cut triangle chip carving along both sides — a traditional decorative technique that adds visual rhythm and sits beautifully against the darkened wood.
Maple is dense and tight-grained to begin with. The shou sugi ban process takes that further, toughening the surface without any added stain or finish. The result is a spoon that's built to be used and looks better for it.
Size: 13" long; 2-1/2" wide bowl
