This hand-carved American Chestnut eating spoon is shaped to feel comfortable in your hand and at your mouth, while still carrying the unmistakable character of the tree it came from.

American Chestnut once dominated eastern forests before chestnut blight nearly eliminated mature trees within a generation. Today the species is considered functionally extinct, making workable chestnut wood genuinely rare.

This spoon keeps the design intentionally simple, letting the warm golden grain and natural variations in the wood do most of the talking. A small hand-carved star on the handle adds just a touch of detail. Burnished smooth with a river rock and finished with food-safe oil, it has a warm satin feel that will only get better with use.

It’s a rare piece of wood history, but not something you need to save for special occasions. This one was made for breakfast, soup, dessert—and all the ordinary meals in between.
