“Elk at Dusk” Black Birch Spoon
Signature Series
$45.00
Out of stock
Carved from a storm-fallen black birch limb, this spoon uses the wood’s natural grain as the setting rather than the backdrop. Variations in color and figure create a sense of land and sky, giving the surface the feel of a quiet landscape before any lines are added.
The scene is cut by hand using traditional kolrosing: an elk and her calf at the edge of the trees, with the moon rising above the horizon. The design follows the contours and color shifts already present in the wood—no dyes or stains, just the tree’s natural contrast guiding the composition.
As a Signature Series piece, this spoon is built to work first. It’s well balanced, comfortable in the hand, and shaped for everyday cooking, while also carrying a scene that rewards a closer look when you pause.
