Spalted Maple Basketweave Cooking Spoon

Signature Series

This 12" cooking spoon comes from a storm-fallen maple limb gathered right here in Needham, transformed from downed wood into a functional piece of art. The bowl carries striking spalted figure—dark lines, warm tonal shifts, and depth that only nature can draw. Its flat-tipped profile excels at scraping the bottom of a pan, sautéing vegetables, or serving directly to the plate.

Along the styled handle, a hand-cut basket-weave kolrosing pattern creates a rhythmic, geometric texture. Each line is incised one-by-one with a special knife and burnished with cinnamon, giving the pattern a warm, understated contrast against the naturally rich maple grain. The surface is finished the Spoonweather way—hand-carved, burnished smooth with a river rock, and oiled for a soft sheen and lasting durability.

A refined piece with thoughtful details—an excellent example of the Signature Series ethos.
